Please review the following terms and concepts, I feel it is important that you understand the language of foundation repair!.
Drive By Evaluation - Whatever the amount of repair cost, pretend you have to deliver it in person at the repair company's location. Get in your car and drive by. Don't like what you see? Can't find them? That's what your lifetime warranty is worth!
Binding Arbitration - It's the binding part that is ALWAYS against the homeowner. If its not in the contract, arbitration and mediation are great! Click here to see an opinion article from the Journal of Texas Consumer Law that sum up my opinion.
Drilled Pier - Uses an auger to remove soil and an undereaming tool (belling tool) to remove an additional amount of soil before concrete is poured in place.
Pressed Pile - Driven into the ground using the weight of the house.
Refusal - A highly misused term in an industry that obscures the truth to make the homeowner feel good. "Refusal" in the pile driving industry means to secure the pile in an amount that far exceeds the demand ever required of it (perhaps 4 to 1). When your home is used to install a pile, a ratio of only 1 to 1 is achievable without damaging your slab. Click here for an example of damage to a slab by pressed piles.
Tuck Point - Repair of the mortar between your brick. Texture and color matched as close as possible.
Mud Pumping - Mixing top soil with portland cement and using a mud pump at approximatly 200 psi to fill the void under the slab.
Plumbing Test - Sewer lines under the slab may be cracked. They must be tested after raising before mud pumping may begin.
